The ones that come with Mac OS X 10.4 are not identical to GNU versions. (Also the Mac system version for OS X 10.5 seems to be different from OS X 10.4.) What I did have trouble with, though, was updating CUPS. This doesn't happen until you try: sudo make install (of Ghostscript 8.64). The last steps of the installation are to compile and install CUPS (for printer drivers ??). The compilation failed, so installation halted. Presumably my previous version (v8.57) would still work OK, if ever I used it --- which I don't, so far as I know --- since I've kept the older version of the GS binary still around. >> Julius O.
