Hi Ger,
there should be a message but it is only displayed if you press any
button (except "Save") on the edit screen.
I will check if this can be solved in a different way.

When adding a new user, I note that if there is already a user with the user
name that I wish add then a modified version will be created.
Example, If I wish to add the user name JohnH and that user name is already
taken, then the username JohnH2 is created.
It may be more useful if there was a message to say that the user name already
exist so a different one can be chosen.
