Devon, I've used Superior Masterpiece 50/2 cotton for BL, and it works up very nicely (comes in a spool). My local quilt shop here in town has a nice selection of colours (not massive, but good enough for my purposes). It's not overly fluffy like some brands - Star brand 100% cotton is notorious for being horribly linty.
You do want to check the spools closely to be sure you're getting the 100% cotton that's 50/2 - they have a range of threads that are 40wt, polycottons, etc. I got caught with one that I thought was 100% cotton, but turned out to be polycotton. It's OK, as I was after the colour, and for what I did, the different texture was OK, but do check the labels.
