Helen is right there was a time men also had lace-handkerchiefs. If they use them or if they were only to show their richness or perhaps to give it to a lady who is weeping I don’t know. In the second part of 19th century lots of handkerchief were often about 50x45cm. In my opinion those were decoration. Imagine you take it in your hand there is a lot to see of the precious lace.
