I have encountered a lace the likes of which I have never seen before. The ground works like point ground, but it is done with pairs acting as singles. Where they come together, they split into threads as singles and work a linen stitch. Our information says that it is 19th century, and Russian. It also identifies it as Mechlin, but I think that might be because where the pairs come together, the linen stitch might be mistaken for a plait as in Mechlin.
