I visited Grammont many years ago to see Chantilly lace in the museum there - at least I think it was a museum, I do not remember clearly. But I do remember that we were told that the lace was made with black silk thread, and that the silk reacted badly to the dye, therefore the lace did not have a long life! I would like to have known what dye was used, but no one knew.
