The original jacket cover on Lace by Virginia Churchill Bath (published 1974) is of a fragment of colored lace flowers, identified in the book as from Italy, 19th century. The author once remarked to a group of us that she wondered why we were so awestruck when we saw the actual tiny piece in the Chicago Art Institute's collection. but, of course, it was because at that time we had not done lace in colors ourselves.
