Hi Sally Do you mean the Spanish/Maltese type used vertically or the English version used horizontally? The modern English bolsters are cylindrical and more difficult than the earlier ones. Traditionally the bolsters were barrel shaped and the working edge of the lace was kept at the very top of the dome allowing the bobbins to fan out round it, Therefore using one feels much like working on a cookie pillow, I made a fan on one.
