Thanks for your informative replies Brenda and Jane. It seems that the Bart & Francis silk may be too fine, but the Piper's 80/3 seems it could be a good alternative. The 100/3 may be a little too thin, but I have ordered a cop of each to try out again. I say 'again' as I had already tried a few different threads when I had first started planning this project some time ago. In fact I had used the thread I'd ordered from Piper's to cover a lampshade and work a fan (still uncounted!) At least now my pattern for the veil is drafted and I am nearly ready to begin working, at long last and after many hiccups and deviations on the way. Hopefully the daughter who wants the veil will not want to get married before it's ready...
