Sharon and other members of Arachne: 1. If you do not put a Subject on your memos, we get your mail with no idea it is from someone subscribing to Arachne. Meaning, no "Re: [lace]" on the Subject line. Many people delete (without opening) inbox mail, if it has no Subject. You will see I've added 2 to this reply.
PLEASE! Subjects are essential for good management of Arachne Archives. That means a Subject that your memo can be filed under, not something like "hello", which means nothing and should not take up space in our archives. Sometimes you have to read what you have written before you decide what the Subject should be. And, please, do not reply to a Subject with something that is completely not relevant. It will be lost in our archives under the original subject. 2. About used book prices: If you really want a lace book, you must buy when it is available. They are not published by the thousands. Lace books become impossible to get after a short time, and demand is greater than supply. Many on Arachne do not have unlimited funds for books. I am dedicated to putting together a very good research library on a fixed income. Have been known to avoid the grocery store and live on cereal in order to pay for a lace book. If you really want a book, sometimes a sacrifice is necessary. Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center --------------------------------------------------------- In a message dated 12/2/2015 2:59:50 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Our club was just offered a largish collection of lace books to buy from an old lace maker. The current owner had priced them out on EBay and Amazon. Well, I thought the asking prices were a bit inflated until I checked our regular suppliers and elsewhere. Turns out that most of these books have increased anywhere from 100% and up ... in just one year! The cause isnââ¬â¢ t just because of our devalued Canadian dollar either, that realistically shouldnââ¬â¢t account for more than 20%. What gives?
