Unless they pay Canonical for "Expanded Security Maintenance" it's high-time 
that people leave Ubuntu 20.04 LTS:

"Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) has reached the end of its standard five-year 
support window on 31 May 2025. It’s time to start thinking about your options 
for upgrading."

In other words, I wouldn't bother to waste another thought on making the 
AppImage work on a dead version of Ubuntu.
