Should editing multiple transactions allow adding a tag?

Editing multiple transactions, I can enter a tag, and have it show to  
the right of the tag drop-down, but on saving, the tag is NOT added to  
any of the selected transactions.  Is this intentional, a simple bug,  
or a side effect of editing constraints which would make it difficult  
to change?
