Please try a more recent version - 5.1.3 is current. For your problem, what happens if you do not tick the box to mount the backup directory? Where are you trying to back up the file? To a local directory or a network share? For your last question, yes, simply making a copy of the .kmy file is all a backup does, so that is sufficient - but you should use some naming convention so each backup does not simply overwrite the previous one.
