One thing you can check - Select the menu item Settings/Configure KMyMoney... then click the Plugins icon, which is the last one on the left pane of the dialog. Let us know if the SQL Storage plugin is present. Also, are you sure you have QMySQL installed? It would also help if you told us exactly what you have tried.
