The Loan account is designed for bank loans.
Since you do not want a bank loan, don't use the bank loan account type.
For your needs, you could just create a Cash account named "Loan To Friend".
Add a transaction to "Pay To" your friend, make up a category, like "Loan", and
enter an amount. When your friends pays you back, enter the amount as a
"deposit".
