This is what keeps us motivated. Well, in fact the balance of your credit card account in your example is decreasing. It goes from -599.30 to -619.30 which is mathematically less. The confusing thing here is, that your credit on the credit card account is shown as negative value but the math is correct. Also, the value is shown in the column 'Payment' which is a payment towards the card as opposed to 'Charges' where your expenses will show up. Liability accounts are shown with reverse sign to better match the statements sent out by financial institutions. You could also take a look at reports which will show your funds on the credit card account as negative liabilities (which are in fact assets).
