Hello,

I have nearly completed the (long & tedious) process of migrating my accounts
from MSMoney to KMyMoney (4.6.4 Windows). So far I have been really impressed by
the professional design of KMyMymoney which I find in many respects easier (more
logical) to use than MSMoney. However I am now stucked on a trivial problem. I have
searched the user manual (again a top quality document) and found exactly the
answer to my question on page 71 § 11.5.4 :

--------
Shares, Price & Total Amount
For buy, sell, and cash dividend transactions, the number of shares, the price
per share, and the total amount of the transaction must be established. You can
enter any two of these, and KMyMoney will calculate the third. It's usually
best to enter just the total amount and the number of shares, because these are
the known facts of the transaction. The price per share can be calculated from
these.
--------

except that my KMyMoney (4.6.4 running on windows XP SP3, with KDE 4.10.5) doesn't seem
to behave this way. That is I can only enter the number of shares and the price per share
and KMyMoney calculates the total amount (no input box available for total amount, cf.
attached capture). This is not convenient as the manual witfully points out : "It's
usually best to enter just the total amount and the number of shares, because these are
the known facts of the transaction". It is practically impossible by trial an error
to find the correct price per share that gives the exact total amount stated on my bank
account.

I deeply hope that my question has a solution for KMyMoney seems otherwise such
a nice piece of software (providing online price quote which MSMoney no longer
does).

Thank you in advance for your help in this matter

Best Regards.

No, it's not a silly question, and there is a simple answer.

If you open the investment/stock for editing, at the foot of the Investment Details window, open the Price entry drop-down and select 'Total for all shares'. When you create your transaction, in 'Price', enter the total amount, and enter the quantity. The price will be calculated for you.
