You say you have Win7 then you could try the Windows version which does provide a package with the latest version. See http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/windows-install.html for more information about installing on Windows. Current versions should be KMyMoney 4.6.2 with KDE 4.8.0. I got it that importing small files works as expected. Does importing large file fail consistently? Or did you try to wait longer for the import process to finish? (400mb seems a lot of data).
