As you say, there are indeed files/Ledgers in the program and I have found them, but when I click on the current downloads from my bank I see that the KDE logo comes up and says loading and eventually this goes away. So I open up the ledger and there is no update so I don't know what the program has done with it. I'm sorry if this sounds awful stupid but this program is quite different in style from what I originally used. I use the Ubuntu Software Centre for the update, as that's what the system prompts me to do. I hope this helps.
