Title:
Unable to run VMWare-Player under 3.8.0-29-generic.
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
VMWare's VMPlayer 5.0.2. installed on Ubuntu 13.04, running well under
3.8.0-27-generic kernel.
Ubuntu's Software Updater runs, installs 3.8.0-29-generic kernel. Trying to
run VMPlayer after that, results in information message that modules need to be
installed into the new kernel, as always after a kernel update.
Allowing the Kernel updates from there, results in the VMWare
process/window disappearing. Re-starting VMPlayer repeats the
process. VMPlayer never launches successfully.
Workaround:
1. Boot into 3.8.0-27-generic.
2. Run the VMWare installer to uninstall "vmware-player" along with all
configuration data.
3. Boot into 3.8.0-29-generic.
4. Reinstall VMware Installer, and VMPlayer.
