The freeze looks like your typical graphic driver problem. If I install Ubuntu 13.10, then the proprietary drivers, and then upgrade to 14.04, everything works fine. It takes several hours more than it should though. Threfore I assume it's a problem with the open-source graphic drivers. Possible fix? Using proprietary drivers during the installation? Note: Lubuntu 14.04 installation doesn't freeze and it works fine with the open-source drivers.
