Amordea Whiteoak: >"...if I use the hardware buttons to click on things, then the pointer will >frequently deviate in the process of clicking, leading to undesirable results. >That's not a bug, that's just poor hardware design."
This is actually not a poor hardware design, but a poor driver implementation for all clickpads as per the meta bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1397924 The commands I provided to you previously WORKAROUND that problem. Despite this, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (linux-input, not linux-input-devel) by following the instructions _verbatim_ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ? Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you have made it so that it may be tracked. Thank you for your understanding. ** Description changed: - Edit (12/07): Updated bug description: clicking the hardware clickpad - buttons causes all mouse input to malfunction. + After clicking once at the bottom of my clickpad on either button, if I + move my cursor elsewhere on the screen, and then subsequently click + again (with either clickpad or external mouse this time) it registers a + click at the location where my cursor icon was originally. I can + continue to move my cursor anywhere on the screen, and it still + registers the click in the original location. - Edit: This bug is a possible duplicate of bug #1394869 - - So far, from what I can gather, the clickpad functions normally when - using the touchpad portion to maneuver the onscreen pointer. However, - the act of using one of the hardware click buttons causes it to - malfunction. - - To test, I ran: - xinput --test 11 - and the output given shows a rapid stream of positioning data prior to the click, then no data after the click, however the mouse pointer appears to continue to move. However attempting to click on anything with the pointer after the first click of the clickpad registers as a click in the same location with either the clickpad or an external mouse until the clickpad is disabled with: + WORKAROUND: The following causes the clickpad to cease functioning, but allows the USB mouse to work normally: xinput set-prop 11 "Device Enabled" 0 - which of course causes the clickpad to cease function, however the USB mouse then continues to work normally. - - If you would like for me to perform any other tests, please let me know - what I can try.
