I went on the Ubuntu forum and several people there tried to help. I tried a lot of commands and up dates but nothing has worked. Except for backloading an older kernel. The laptop I am using is an HP G6. The strange thing about this is I have another HP laptop an Envy 15T with the same Intel N7260 WiFi card and Ubuntu 14.04 and kernel 3.13 and it works fine. So I suppose there is something about the 3.11 and newer that doesn't allow the on/off push button on the G6 to work.
