May be related to bugs 113095 and/or 197705. If I absent-mindedly disconnect the ethernet cable between my HP Pavilion and my DSL internet service during shutdown, the shutdown process hangs. Solution: don't disconnect during shutdown :-) I don't experience this problem with Linux Mint 14 (on a separate Pavilion) -- but Mint 14 is derived from Ubuntu 12.10 (I think).
