** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/792318 Title: Strange noise at shutdown, reboot or sleep Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: linux-image The bug appeared when I tried to upgrade my ubuntu from maverick to natty. My kernel under maverick is 2.6.35, the kernel under natty was 2.6.38. Description of the bug : the computer works perfectly fine, but when I shut it down, there is a loud "crack" (not a beep) at the very end of the process. It is probably not a speakers cracking, because I have tried it with external speakers, and the sound still came from the computer. It does the same for hibernation or sleep, except that the noise is done twice when put to sleep. The noise appears too with the natty live-cd (when I shut down, it appears just after removing the cd). I think it is a kernel bug, because when I boot on a older kernel (grub still proposes old versions), there is no problem. I tried installing 2.6.39 to see if it helped, but the noise is still there. I am using a HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop (dual boot ubuntu/vista).
