libaudit-dev is a universe package in Precise (12.04). The kernel (being in main) cannot be dependent on a universe package for security policy reasons. libaudit-dev was not promoted to main until Trusty (14.04)

See 'perf --help'. This is probably due to the fact that libaudit-dev was not available at compile time. Is it an oversight or was it left out intentionally ? Adding 'libaudit-dev' to Build-Depends, installing it and rebuilding the package makes the 'perf trace' command work.
