If the jumps happen when you use two fingers, maybe this 
(http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-devel/2014-June/042790.html) could 
help. If this is the case, then it's not a kernel bug.
That patch could also help if the bug you are experiencing is the same as the 
one you linked which seems to be a kernel bug.

Note that the patch I linked is not a kernel patch, so it's not
something that can be included in the backported kernel.
