The volume would always be set to 100% after booting, though I couldn't hear anything. WORKAROUND: I went to the audio settings, and discovered that the hardware profile was set to "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output". Changing it to "Analog Stereo Output" fixed the problem. --- ApportVersion: 2.13.2-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 2119 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c: ubuntu 2119 F...m pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.337 CurrentDesktop: Unity DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Alpha amd64 (20140304) MachineType: Dell Inc.
