Public bug reported: Since several ubuntu versions (at least since 12.10), this motherboard has required extra parameters to successfully boot. Early on it was 'nolapic_timer'. Nowadays, it is 'nomodeset'. Without it, the boot sequence either panics or reboots (much more often the latter) after a few seconds (between 3 and 7 in my anecdotal observations).
This time around I snapped a picture of the panic information.
