Unfortunately I can't bisect due to the following reasons: - when I tried to boot an older kernel (that used to work IIRC) and it failed in the same way - the failing kernel worked a few times, but just died on some random boot, so this bug has some random component - because the computer was completely unusable I had to wipe it and reinstall trusty which has been working thus far
