After some research this device turned out to have a Mediatek mt7610un
chipset.
There is an official driver on the mediatek website:
http://www.mediatek.com/en/downloads/?sort=os
We compiled the driver and copied the binary files from
~/mt7610u_wifi_sta_v3002_dpo_20130916/mcu/bin
to /lib/firmware.
The result of sudo modprobe mt7650u_sta is:
