Have you tried the 570 driver? Ubuntu tends to retire support for Nvidia
drivers when Nvidia does.
Also, what GPU are you using? It would be helpful if you capture a crash in the
terminal, or at least give basic system info with:
apport-collect 2129052

With newer drivers, switching between apps that use the GPU frequently
causes one or both of those apps to crash. Please don't force the
transition to 580.
