I got somewhat further.

Kernel tells

xe 0000:00:02.0: Your graphics device 46d1 is not officially supported
by xe driver in this kernel version. To force Xe probe,
               use xe.force_probe='46d1' and i915.force_probe='!46d1'
               module parameters or CONFIG_DRM_XE_FORCE_PROBE='46d1' and
               CONFIG_DRM_I915_FORCE_PROBE='!46d1' configuration options.

Graphics Device is a

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-N
[UHD Graphics] [8086:46d1] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

but applying the mentioned kernel options doesn't make it work either. Forcing
xe to recognize it gives

[ 23.334451] xe 0000:00:02.0: [drm] Found alderlake_p/alderlake_n (device ID
46d1) integrated display version 13.00 stepping D0
[ 23.335224] xe 0000:00:02.0: vgaarb: VGA decodes changed:

[ 23.340515] xe 0000:00:02.0: [drm] Finished loading DMC firmware

[ 23.344679] xe 0000:00:02.0: [drm] GT0: Using GuC firmware from
i915/tgl_guc_70.bin version 70.44.1

but screen remains black.

The problem seems to be that the Intel Alder Lake hardware is simply not
supported by both the old i915 and the new xe display drivers.

Title:
Screen resolution limited to 800x600 after update to 25.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

  I have a small 10 inch Notebook with a resolution of 1200x1920
(actually, for some unknown reason, they used a portrait mode LCD and
rotated it 90 degree to get the usual notebook landscape display,
therefore the screen needs to be set to "rotated" in Desktops)

It worked in full resolution under Kubuntu 25.04.

After updating to Kubuntu 25.10 (do-release-update -d) the screen
resolution is fixed to 800x600, and can't be changed in the kde
  settings.

Seems as if the driver is gone and notebook now runs in standard VGA
  mode.

btw., I do need kernel option nomodeset, otherwise screen remains
black after booting (both in 25.04 and 25.10)

  regards
