Hello. So I have an issue with this exact model of Asus N552VW (Intel +
GTX960M).
The issue is that any kernel higher than v6.4 will no longer boot the OS
at all, just black screen and system freeze. I tried playing with secure
boot settings, uefi, csm, all variables but nothing helped. The only way
I was able to boot Ubuntu 22.04 and Ubuntu 24.04 was to install the very
first versions from an archive and block the kernel 5.x for Ub 22 and
for Ub 24 to enter it in safe mode and force any kernel lower or equal
to 6.4 (as Ubuntu 24 lts will come by default with v6.8 if I recall
correctly).
The installations works as expected for both of them but 24 will just
not boot at all and 22 will not boot after updating it to the latest
version available.
I don’t know exactly for sure what is causing this but safe mode will
let Ubuntu boot, just not in normal mode.
