This sounds brutal, but unfortunately, there is nothing we can do as mc
developers here.

In the past, we have added workarounds suggested by users for CIFS, and
I have received other reports that the CIFS driver is behaving in
questionable ways:

https://github.com/MidnightCommander/mc/issues/4677

However, it seems that your issues are really getting out of hand. Also,
they affect more than just mc, as you wrote.

Unfortunately, I've had little success convincing users to escalate this
issue to the kernel maintainers. I don't use Linux or CIFS, so I can't
help you.

Please try to get some CIFS people to look into this, and until then
maybe you can use smbfs instead.

Title:
Copying a file from or to a cifs mounted drive does not end

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I copy a file with
  mc
or simply with 'cp' on Ubuntu 25.04, kernel 6.14.0-15, the copying does not
stop and instead of getting for instance a 1 kByte large file I have to press
ctrl-c (or kill mc) to stop because of the file gets larger and larger and
copying does not stop.

  Workarounds:
1st Using rsync to copy the file.
2nd Using the previous 6.11 kernel from Ubuntu 24.10 for copying.

  Remarks:
1st I destroyed local clones of git repositories where the repositories are
located at a Windows network compatible drive on the fritz box, so `git` is
affected too.
2nd Using `gio mount smb://Server/Drive` is no way, because I cannot clone
or pull a git repository from such a file. Also, not all files are copied if I
mark
them within `mc`, so there are other problems there.
3rd Tested on 3 different laptops.
