This is a very old discussion, but since I experienced the issue with a recovered computer just a few days ago, I believe that it is worth to leave a note here.
I had the same problem with the bios not booting anymore and not even displaying the logo. However, following the suggestions I managed to boot a pendrive with a linux distribution using F9. Once linux is up, the trick is to manually delete the excessive boot entries in /sys/firmware/efi/efivars [and possibly remove also the files dump-* ] Once this is done it is possible to reboot the machine and enter bios setup. (Just a note: do not delete ALL Boot* entries; just the repeated ones or the ones which do not correspond to any existing device; in particular leave an entry to boot off the internal hd and one to boot off usb hd) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1040557 Title: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C,np700z5c laptop Status in Ubuntu CD Images: Fix Released Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu quantal series: Fix Released Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Oneiric: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Quantal: Fix Released Bug description: I cannot provide detailed log massages because laptop is bricked right now.
