Hello Hector, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into oracular-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/20240913.gita34e7a5f-0ubuntu2.7 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
oracular to verification-done-oracular. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-oracular. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)

Title:
Add support for QAT Gen5 device with the 420xx (CPM2.2) firmware

Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in linux-firmware source package in Noble:
  Fix Committed
Status in linux-firmware source package in Oracular:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

   * For QAT Gen5 (available on Intel GraniteRapids-D Kaseyville platform), the
driver qat_420xx
fails to load the firmware and this causes QAT device to not work properly

This is applicable for these kernels:
     - Noble generic kernel (6.8) and HWE (6.11)
     - Oracular generic kernel (6.11)

  [ Test Plan ]

   * On boot, this kernel message can be found:

Apr 07 22:05:36 ubuntu kernel: 420xx 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for
qat_420xx_mmp.bin failed with error -2
Apr 07 22:05:36 ubuntu kernel: 420xx 0000:01:00.0: Failed to load MMP
firmware qat_420xx_mmp.bin
Apr 07 22:05:36 ubuntu kernel: 420xx 0000:01:00.0: Failed to load
acceleration FW

   * We can also run cpa_sample_code application to validate the QAT
functionality
    $ sudo apt install -y qatlib-service qatlib-examples
    $ sudo cpa_sample_code
The cpa_sample_code should detect QAT devices and run successfully

[ Where problems could occur ]

   * The firmware are standalone binaries and only loaded by the QAT qat_420xx
kernel module
     No regression should be expected.

  [ Other Info ]

   * The firmware files to backport are :
     qat_420xx.bin
     qat_420xx_mmp.bin

They are both part of the linux-firmware package in Plucky.
