This did not happen on 6.11.0-21-generic, which I ran for a couple or weeks without issue, nor any other earlier version. This is on a Dell R7515 server with an AMD EPYC 7302P CPU; in case it's relevant I use ZFS. When it freezes, the console prints a warning: [12158.380885] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [12158.386332] WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 0 at kernel/time/timer_migration.c:543 tmigr_cpu_new_timer+0x1c9/0x230 [12158.396381] Modules linked in: tcp_diag inet_diag bonding tls cfg80211 binfmt_misc ip6t_REJECT nf_reject_ipv6 xt_tcpudp ipt_REJECT f_reject_ipv4 xt_set nft_compat nf_tables ip_set_hash_net ip_set nls_iso8859_1 amd_atl intel_rapl_msr intel_rapl_common amd64_edac eda_mce_amd dell_pc platform_profile kvm_amd kvm dell_wmi ee1004 ses video enclosure dell_smbios sparse_keymap i2c_piix4 ccp rapl scsi_trnsport_sas ptdma wmi_bmof k10temp cdc_acm dcdbas dell_wmi_descriptor i2c_algo_bit i2c_smbus ipmi_ssif acpi_power_meter mac_hid sch_fq_odel dm_multipath acpi_ipmi ipmi_si ipmi_devintf ipmi_msghandler efi_pstore nfsd auth_rpcgss nfs_acl lockd grace sunrpc nfnetlink dmi_ysfs ip_tables x_tables autofs4 zfs(PO) spl(O) btrfs blake2b_generic raid10 raid456 async_raid6_recov async_memcpy async_pq async_xor sync_tx xor raid6_pq libcrc32c raid0 cdc_ether usbnet mii raid1 uas usb_storage crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul polyval_clmulni polyval_eneric ghash_clmulni_intel sfc sha256_ssse3 mtd ahci xhci_ pci sha1_ssse3 tg3 libahci [12158.396678] megaraid_sas mdio xhci_pci_renesas wmi aesni_intel crypto_simd cryptd [12158.501416] CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 0 Comm: swapper/0 Tainted: P W O 6.11.0-24-generic #24~24.04.1-Ubuntu [12158.512627] Tainted: [P]=PROPRIETARY_MODULE, [W]=WARN, [O]=OOT_MODULE The freeze affects some things but not others. My existing SSH connection and tmux continue to work (mostly; tmux freezes intermittently and *usually* recovers after a minute or so...though eventually it seems to get stuck forever). New SSH connections do not succeed; the TCP connection establishes and SSH starts to negotiate, but it gets stuck during authentication. Some commands such as "ps aux" freeze indefinitely, or freeze for a while. My serial console's getty and the VGA console both stop responding entirely (no response to pressing enter). The above warning only makes it to the serial console, not VGA. strace'ing "ps aux" shows that it freezes (seemingly forever) whilst reading from procfs: openat(AT_FDCWD, "/proc/4/stat", O_RDONLY) = 4 read(4, PID 4 is some kernel thread but I'm not sure what. Let me know if there's anything else I can usefully provide. --- ProblemType: Bug AlsaDevices: total 0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 1 Apr 23 15:23 seq crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 Apr 23 15:23 timer AplayDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'aplay' ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3.5 Architecture: amd64 ArecordDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'arecord' AudioDevicesInUse: Error: command ['fuser', '-v', '/dev/snd/seq', '/dev/snd/timer'] failed with exit code 1: CRDA: N/A CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=none IwConfig: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'iwconfig' MachineType: Dell Inc.
