Hi Thierry,

I believe bug 1965303 has provided the reason Ubuntu deprecated fbdev,
and there is also a url to Fedora's kernel commit that did the same
thing.

The Ubuntu generic kernels want to serve as much users as possible,
however that certainly doesn't and cannot mean all. Anyone may have some
kind of awesome works and some of them might depend on a specific kernel
feature that is currently turned off/unavailable in Ubuntu generic
kernels. That, unfortunately, happens from time to time.

But, you don't have to fight for it. You can have it right now. You can
certainly download, patch, and build your own Ubuntu kernels with
everything you desperately wanted, freely, forever.

Title:
CONFIG_FB_EFI needed in initramfs for linuxboot based systems

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1965303/comments/39

Otherwise, Heads (coreboot payload enforcing GOP/libgfxinit -> efifb
-> kexec into OS initramfs efifb -> main kernel simpledrm -> advanced
drm+fb takeover) stays in the dark at pre-LUKS volume unlock prompt.

Can CONFIG_FB_EFI be added back in initramfs?
