I have now tested for a few days with an X11 session.
Unfortunately the bug still occurs.

It occurs a bit more rarely and after the screen starts to flicker I
have more time to react (save open work) before the system exhibits
further instability. Also the hangs where everything graphical occurs at
~1fps have not yet been observed, instead a crash of the GUI happens.

I will attach a journalctl log excerpt starting from a resume after
which the error occurred. amdgpu errors are reported starting from Line
233.

Under https://roel.re/tmp/del2026/Bug2103854_Ideapad_amdgpu.webm I
uploaded a very short video which shows the initial corruption showing
in one of the 3 buffers. In this case only a few pixels, sometimes also
the whole screen flickers. Shortly after such artifacts show (and rarely
also without such a warning) the system will hang or crash. Restarting
the GUI does not mitigate the issue, a full reboot is needed.

@You-Sheng Yang (vicamo) I did not test the kernel from the PPA as, as
you noted yourself, the kernel in my system already has the patch. Also
the ppa was made for oracular while I am testing/running plucky. But
thank you for taking the time to compile it. If you want me to test with
the kernel anyway I can do so.

Title:
[IdeaPad Pro 5 14APH8, Radeon 780M] amdgpu causes hangups and crashes

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After updating to 24.10 and thereafter 25.04 the system sometimes lags
significantly or even crashes. This is sometimes accompanied by
graphical glitches like a checkerboard pattern of bright colored
squares in an area of the screen. The mouse cursor hangs too when the
  issue occurs.

In one case file system access was no longer possible. The was/is
stable under Kubuntu 24.04 and 23.10 and Windows 11.

  Reproducing:
On a system with a current AMD APU under kwin_wayland launch supertuxkart,
launch Signal-Desktop, go to standby, wake up, wait half a minute. That seems
to be a somewhat reliable way to trigger the issue. The issue also occurs with
other electron based apps and sometimes media players.

  Additional information:
Similar errors occurred on a SchenkerTechnologiesGmbH XMG EVO (M24) with an
8845HS (the reporting system has an 7840HS) which is no longer in my hands.
I updated the bios and also tried changing the UMA Frame buffer size to a
smaller value with no effect.

  (repeating in a similar pattern)

During the writing of this bug report the issue also occurred with
nothing in the dmesg or journalctrl logs, but the mouse cursor and all
graphical updates only happen at ~1fps.
