This has happened for some time now. To reproduce:
(1) Connect external monitor through HDMI
(2) Turn off the external monitor
(3) Turn off external power supply to the system and let it sleep / hibernate
(4) Try to wake up the system. It will hang at the login screen without any way
of recovering it except power cycle.
