The Ubuntu LTS releases provide two "tracks" for kernel updates via meta packages, GA (linux-generic) and HWE (linux-generic-hwe-<lts_release>). Prior to point releases the Kernel Team will "roll" the HWE meta to the backport of the most recent series, so for 24.04.2 the meta package "linux-generic-hwe-24.04" was updated to depend on the linux-hwe-6.11 binaries (https://packages.ubuntu.com/noble-updates/linux-generic- hwe-24.04).
Therefore it's a choice of the people responsible for building images whether the GA or the HWE meta is installed. We always keep updating both "tracks" as server users usually prefer to stay on the GA kernel. This is the expected behavior and not a kernel bug, therefore I'm marking this bug as invalid. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2098062 Title: Lubuntu 24.04.2 LTS RC install; GA kernel stack (not HWE?) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: This was reported a few hours ago on IRC (#ubuntu-release), and I suspect the kernel package for flavors wasn't switched from GA to HWE. I've installed Lubuntu here, but a look at the manifest for Xubuntu & Ubuntu-MATE by me (hours ago, prior to report on IRC) indicates to me its not unique to Lubuntu ** actual kernel installed is linux-image-generic ** expected kernel expected was linux-image-generic-hwe-24.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: linux-image-6.8.0-53-generic 6.8.0-53.55 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-53.55-generic 6.8.12 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-53-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3.3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/seq: guiverc 1171 F.... pipewire /dev/snd/controlC0: guiverc 1174 F.... wireplumber CRDA: N/A CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Wed Feb 12 16:28:23 2025 InstallationDate: Installed on 2025-02-12 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu 24.04.2 LTS "Noble Numbat" - Release amd64 (20250211.1) IwConfig: lo no wireless extensions. enp0s25 no wireless extensions.
