Bug description:
Hello,
running a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.01 LTS with Kernel 6.8 or 6.11 on
a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 Gen8 (Intel 13th Gen i5-1345U) connected to
a Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AN, Gen 2) enables every
USB/HDMI/DisplayPort device of the Dock to work properly - except of
the Analog Sound Sink (3.5mm Audio Jack) is listed as Sound Sink in
the Output devices but does not work.
Additionally to the Sink on the Ubuntu 24/Kernel 6.8&6.11 Lenovo
Machine not working properly, the Sound Source (Input) of the very
same 3.5mm Analog Audio Port is not listed at all.
This behavior is really odd as the Analog Sound Sink and Source works
with Ubuntu 22 LTS/Kernel 6.5/Pipewire 0.3 as tested on my previous
Intel (8th Gen) i915 machine (HP ProBook 450 G6) with HDA Intel SND
driver/ Realtek ALC236 Chipset.
Actually, it is quite "interesting" that everything works with Ubuntu
22/kernel 6.5 on the HP machine, because as soon as I upgraded the
Ubuntu 22 of the older i915 HP machine to Ubuntu 24 with Kernel 6.8
the Laptops internal Speaker are not recognized as Sound Sink any
longer and therefor do not work DESPITE the Sound Source of the same
device (Laptops internal Microphones) being listed and working AND the
internal 3.5mm Jack working.
So to me it seems that as soon as Kernel 6.8 or newer is used with either
machines, there are multiple issues:
The i915 (Intel 8th Gen) machine has issues with one internal sink (but not
with the source of internal microhpones or the source+sink of the 3.5mm jack)
and with the external USB sound device (sink+source). Both, after upgrading and
after a fresh install.
On the other hand my newer Lenovo with a fresh OS install only has
issues with external USB sound devices (sink and source) while all
internal sound devices (source+sink) do work properly.
Please advice what additional Logs you may need.
Thanks ahead
