** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 2084046 [i915] Phantom "Unknown" display detected on Intel Meteor Lake -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091746 Title: Unknown display in 6.8.0-50-generic (Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading my system (kernel version 6.8.0-50-generic), a phantom display appeared in the display settings. 1. A third "Unknown 24"" in display settings & "None-1" via xrandr display appears alongside my built-in laptop display and my external monitor (connected via thunderbolt 4) 2. That phantom display is functional (i can drag window to it) but does not correspond to any physical monitor. 3. Issue persists even after disconnecting external monitor and rebooting, leaving only built-in and phantom displays Attempts to fix: 1. Tried disabling phantom display with "xrandr --output None-1 --off", failed with error: X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 139 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize) Serial number of failed request: 27 Current serial number in output stream: 29 2. Reinstalled drivers and reset display configurations (no effect). 3. Booting into the previous kernel (6.8.0-49-generic) resolves the issue. Expected behavior: Only the built-in display and the external monitor should appear. Steps to reproduce: 1. Update to kernel 6.8.0-50-generic. 2. Connect an external monitor via Thunderbolt 4. 3. Check the display settings (Settings > Display).
