Do you have USB devices plugged in? Unplug everything and check if it's
any better. Also, can you try with a USB keyboard and check if that
makes a difference?

Title:
system boot freeze while typing crypt password

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Filed this about a year ago as
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2042043 but never
got triaged. Still seeing this on up to date oracular system. Advice
in #ubuntu was to file a new bug

At the luks/crypt password entry screen, I am only able to type about
half my password when the system locks up and became unresponsive.
Hard poweroff was the only thing that worked. Same problem in recovery
mode at the text prompt for the crypt password.

Eventually am able to boot successfully by waiting a while before
typing the password, and typing it very slowly. not really sure how to
provide more information when it gets in this state, but happy to do
  so.
