I'm using Ubuntu 24.04 with Full Disk Encryption and TPM, running the
Snap kernel: pc-kernel 6.8.0-48.48.

When I connect an external display via HDMI to my laptop, the entire
system locks up for approximately 30 seconds, and the external display
is never detected. However, if I boot the machine with the external HDMI
display already connected, there are no issues, then the display works
as expected.

The system also locks up when i unplug the HDMI cable.

I have attached the complete kernel logs from journald for further
analysis.

Title:
linux-image-6.8.0-44-generic breaks HDMI output (-41 works)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
linux-image-6.8.0-44-generic breaks HDMI output. When I connect to the
HDMI port on this laptop the external screen flickers briefly then I
get "no signal". With linux-image-6.8.0-41-generic the HDMI out works
as normal. DisplayPort over USB C seems to work, but only one of my
  two external monitors support that.

There is no obvious error message in dmesg when this happens.

I tried with both KDE and Gnome X11 and Wayland sessions (all 4
combinations). None of that makes a difference.

I'm running in PRIME on-demand mode, and on this laptop the external
display outputs are connected to the Intel graphics (not the nvidia
graphics). That *is* configurable in UEFI settings, but I haven't
  tried changing that.
