Public bug reported:
IGX users on the linux-nvidia-tegra-igx metapackage ABI version <= 1012
will run into a display driver issue if they run `sudo apt upgrade`.
This happens because recent versions of that metapackage install the
r36.3.0 driver version used for Jetson, whereas IGX r36.3 userspace
expects r36.3.1.
To avoid this, we recommend IGX users install the branched metapackage
linux-nvidia-tegra-igx-r36.3.1, but the IGX BaseOS 1.0 image was already
released with linux-nvidia-tegra-igx 1012, before linux-nvidia-tegra-
igx-r36.3.1 was available. This means users on the 1.0 image with the
1012 kernel might break the display driver versioning if they upgrade to
the newer versions using Jetson drivers.
To fix this issue, we will change the linux-nvidia-tegra-igx metapackage
to install r36.3.1 drivers so IGX upgrades still install the correct
drivers. Specifically, linux-nvidia-tegra-igx will transition to linux-
nvidia-tegra-igx-r36.3.1, and the unbranched "linux-nvidia-tegra-igx"
package name will be deprecated (i.e. a transitional package).
This will shift the issue onto Jetson installs, as upgrades will install
IGX drivers and cause a mismatch in the other direction, so we recommend
Jetson users install linux-nvidia-tegra-igx-jetson going forward.
If an upgrade has already been performed and the issue is present, users
just need to get terminal access to their device and `sudo apt install`
the correct metapackage branch, which will automatically install and
replace the necessary components. After that, a reboot should fix the
issue.
