Sorry, don't know what the 'white screen of death' is. 1) Can you get to /var/log/apt/term.log and /var/log/apt/history.log now? Any errors in there?
2) Can you pull the log from a failed boot with 6.8? $ journalctl -b <num> With <num> being a negative number (-1, -2, -3, ..) to look at previous boots until you find one with 6.8. 3) You can also try to enable kernel logs at boot, maybe that gives some clues. In the grub menu, select the entry you want to boot and hit 'e' (edit). Remove 'splash' and 'quiet' from the commandline and hit ctrl-x to boot.
