Public bug reported: General information:
$ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 6.8.0-31.31-generic 6.8.1 $ lsb_release -rd No LSB modules are available. Description: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Release: 24.04 ---- Three months ago I upgraded from Ubuntu 23 to Ubuntu 24. Somehow this upgrade process went wrong because the Linux kernel did not update from driver version=6.5.0-35-generic to 6.8.0-31-generic. On Ubuntu 24.04 + Linux 6.5 everything works fine and there are no difficulties other than not being able to install an appropriate version of `linux-tools- generic` from apt. I am now intending to upgrade the Linux kernel to 6.8.0-31-generic, I have the two kernels available side by side at the bios menu on the same machine. The touchpad is not functional at all when using Linux 6.8. On Ubuntu 24.04 + Linux kernel 6.5, sudo lshw -C input returns 14 devices, three of which are mouse-related. $ sudo lshw -C input *-input:0 product: Sleep Button physical id: 2 logical name: input0 logical name: /dev/input/event0 capabilities: platform *-input:1 product: Lid Switch physical id: 3 logical name: input1 logical name: /dev/input/event1 capabilities: platform *-input:2 product: SYNA8017:00 06CB:CEB2 Touchpad physical id: 4 logical name: input10 logical name: /dev/input/event5 logical name: /dev/input/mouse1 capabilities: i2c *-input:3 product: Intel HID events physical id: 5 logical name: input12 logical name: /dev/input/event7 capabilities: platform *-input:4 product: ThinkPad Extra Buttons physical id: 6 logical name: input13 logical name: /dev/input/event8 capabilities: platform *-input:5 product: Video Bus physical id: 7 logical name: input14 logical name: /dev/input/event9 capabilities: platform *-input:6 product: sof-hda-dsp Mic physical id: 8 logical name: input15 logical name: /dev/input/event10 *-input:7 product: sof-hda-dsp Headphone physical id: 9 logical name: input16 logical name: /dev/input/event11 *-input:8 product: sof-hda-dsp HDMI/DP,pcm=3 physical id: a logical name: input17 logical name: /dev/input/event12 *-input:9 product: sof-hda-dsp HDMI/DP,pcm=4 physical id: b logical name: input18 logical name: /dev/input/event13 *-input:10 product: sof-hda-dsp HDMI/DP,pcm=5 physical id: c logical name: input19 logical name: /dev/input/event14 *-input:11 product: Power Button physical id: d logical name: input2 logical name: /dev/input/event2 capabilities: platform *-input:12 product: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard physical id: e logical name: input3 logical name: /dev/input/event3 logical name: input3::capslock logical name: input3::numlock logical name: input3::scrolllock capabilities: i8042 *-input:13 product: TPPS/2 Synaptics TrackPoint physical id: f logical name: input5 logical name: /dev/input/event6 logical name: /dev/input/mouse2 capabilities: i8042 *-input:14 product: SYNA8017:00 06CB:CEB2 Mouse physical id: 10 logical name: input9 logical name: /dev/input/event4 logical name: /dev/input/mouse0 capabilities: i2c On Linux 6.8, the list contains five devices, not fourteen, and is missing two of the three devices associated with the mouse.
