Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS I have an RTX 3080 and the 515-open driver is recommended right at the top of the list marked as tested. I switched to it off of the 515 non- open version and nothing could detect my GPU anymore. I rebooted and lost brightness control with brightness pinned to max and the NVIDIA X Server settings claiming there was no GPU installed with only the application profiles tab visible. Reverting back to the regular 515 non- open version and rebooting returned all behavior to normal.
